Cisco Nexus 1000V Supported for VMware vSphere 6 Release

Nexus 1000V will continue to be supported in the latest vSphere 6 release which VMware recently announced. Customers who are currently running Nexus 1000V will be able to upgrade to the vSphere 6 release and the new vSphere 6 customers will have the Nexus 1000V as part of their choices for virtual networking.

The Nexus 1000V has been the industry’s leading virtual switching platform with innovations on VXLAN (industry’s first shipping VXLAN platform), and distributed zone firewall (via Virtual Security Gateway released in Jan 2011).

The Nexus 1000V also continues to be the industry’s only multi-hypervisor virtual switching solution that delivers enterprise class functionality and features across vSphere, Hyper-V and KVM.

Note : VMware has decided to no longer offer Nexus 1000V through VMware sales or sell support for the Nexus 1000V through the VMware support organization as of Feb 2nd 2015. Cisco wishes to reiterate that this has NO IMPACT on the availability and associated support from Cisco for the Nexus 1000V running in a vSphere environment.

Cisco will continue to sell Nexus 1000V and offer support contracts. Cisco encourages customers who are currently using VMware support for the Nexus 1000V to migrate their support contracts to Cisco by contacting their local Cisco Sales team to aide in this transition.

MP-BGP eVPN control plane for VXLAN – SDN is growing up

We are all proud parents of our products as developers, much like our own children, we see them born, care and feed for them, watch them carefully as they are unstable during early years, we do not go out much, they become more stable over time, and then something happens – they grow up and there is a need to interact with others. This could describe some of early customer experiences with first generation SDN LAN Emulation technologies.

Cisco Systems introduction and support of Multi-Protocol BGP eVPN control plane for VXLAN https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-l2vpn-evpn-11 is an indication that the SDN industry is growing up, leveraging standards-track protocols, and enabling SDN to scale and interact with others. This is far more significant to the SDN industry than one can read in a single press release and we will expand on its relevance in this blog.

Virtualised Service Module for ASR 9K

Unlock the benefits of virtualization to make your network more flexible, agile, and simpler to manage. The

Cisco® Aggregation Services Router (ASR) 9000 Series Virtualized Services Module (VSM) makes it easy for service providers to transition network infrastructure services to virtual workloads. The VSM provides the capability to host Cisco, third-party, and custom applications in a virtualized environment much like a server blade on a router.

This flexible, elastic approach lets you increase or decrease service capacity as needed, so there is no need to design for maximum capacity. Simplified provisioning and upgrades help you save time and reduce costly truck rolls for upgrades or troubleshooting. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series VSM can help you maximize the availability of services through virtual machine migration in the event of hardware failures. The module has its own processors, network interfaces, and memory that operate independently of the host router resources, helping ensure maximum concurrent routing and application performance.

The Cisco ASR 9000 Series VSM is supported on these Cisco ASR 9000 Series routers :

  • Cisco ASR 9904 Router
  • Cisco ASR 9006 Router
  • Cisco ASR 9010 Router
  • Cisco ASR 9912 Router

The Industrialisation of Hacking

How we got here and what to do to ensure the future of cyber security, Federal agencies and private monitoring companies agree that cyber attacks today are more frequent and more destructive. It’s no longer a matter of if these attacks will happen, but when and for how long. Cisco reports stopping an average of 320 million cyber attacks each day. Or more than 3,700 attacks every second.

Cisco also finds that 75 percent of all attacks take only minutes to begin data

exfiltration but take much longer to detect. More than half of all attacks persist for months—even years— before they are discovered. And it can take weeks or months for a security breach to be fully contained and remediated

Quality Video Experience on Any Device to Anyone

As the workforce becomes more mobile and distributed, leaders recognize the benefits and growing impact of video as a key part of business collaboration. Video is becoming more pervasive. Case in point: Today’s desktop and mobile devices have a camera, if not two.

You can use video collaboration to improve communications, relationships, and productivity by helping people meet face-to-face over distances. This helps you:

Improve decision making by reducing communications delay

 Build trust and understanding across time zones within cross-functional and diverse teams

 Reduce employee travel, real-estate costs, and environmental impact

 Encourage information sharing and knowledge building with employees, partners, and customers

It’s all part of engagement – making it easy and natural for people to collaborate. Cisco is taking these interactions to the next level. Video collaboration experiences are available anywhere, and are as easy as voice. For many use cases, these experiences are better than being there.

Cisco provides one of the industry’s broadest portfolios of purpose-built, high-quality video collaboration solutions. These solutions are designed to meet the needs of all types of workers, whether deskbound or on the road.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/solutions/collaboration/video-collaboration/index.html
